Following in the tradition of year’s past, THE JERRY HERMAN AWARDS has invited four high schools to perform musical numbers during the awards program. Palos Verdes Peninsula High School will perform “Transylvania Mania” from Young Frankenstein, Oak Park High School will perform “And the Money Kept Rolling In” fromEvita, New Community Jewish High School will perform the opening number from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Chaminade College Preparatory High School will perform “Gaston” from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
All schools participating in THE JERRY HERMAN AWARDS are given the opportunity to send a leading man and leading lady to audition before a panel of judges, who determine the winner of the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. Winners in these two awards categories will represent Los Angeles at The National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City, where they will participate in a week long workshop and eventually compete for the coveted “Jimmy” Award; named after the owner of Hollywood Pantages: James M. Nederlander. This year’s panel of judges includes Kenny Ortega, Cathy Rigby, Kay Cole, Nancy Dussault & John Bowab.

When it opened on March 29, 2012 NEWSIES was intended for a Broadway run of just 101 performances. The show’s fiercely devoted fans had other ideas, however; they propelled the show to a run of 1005 performances, attendance of more than 1 million and a gross of over $100M.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.
NEWSIES is inspired by the real-life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899,’ when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers.
The stage version introduces seven brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman, including a song written specifically for the tour called ‘Letter from the Refuge,’ while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’
Since the film’s 1992 theatrical release and subsequent DVD release, NEWSIES has grown into a cult phenomenon, and for years had been the single most requested title of all the Disney musical films not yet adapted for the stage. The producers of the Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical PIPPIN are pleased to announce casting for the U.S. national tour which launches onSeptember 10, 2014 at the Buell Theatre in Denver, CO. This all-new production of Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz’s PIPPIN is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and features choreography by Tony Award nominee Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (also known as 7 Fingers).

The original production of PIPPIN, directed by Bob Fosse, premiered on Broadway in 1972. It won five Tony Awards and five Drama Desk Awards, and ran for close to 2000 performances before closing in 1977. This production of PIPPIN debuted at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, MA where it ran December 5, 2012 to January 20, 2013. It opened on Broadway on April 25, 2013 and went on to win four 2013 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Director of a Musical. This production also received Best Revival of a Musical honors from the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 — The Independent Presenters Network is delighted to announce that JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT will celebrate its Hollywood Pantages Premiere with a limited three week engagement; June 3 – 22, 2014. Casting is complete for this new national tour, which will be directed and choreographed by Tony® Award-Winner Andy Blankenbuehler.

As previously announced, Broadway and television star Diana DeGarmo (Narrator) and Broadway star Ace Young (Joseph) will head up the cast, which will feature Paul Castree as Simeon, William Thomas Evans as Jacob/Potiphar, Brian Golub as Reuben, Will Mann as Judah and Ryan Williams as Pharaoh.
The ensemble will include Chip Abbott, Amanda Braun, Jonathan Burke, Claire Camp, Richard Cerato, Vincent D’Elia, Lisa Finegold, Lili Froehlich, Sasha Hollinger, Brandon Hudson, Patrick John Moran, Mark Roland, David Rossetti, Leigh Scheffler, Christine Cornish Smith, Brett Stoelker, Tricia Tanguy, Matthew Tiberi and Katie Whetsell.
Husband-and-wife team Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo first met when they shared the Broadway stage in the 2009 revival of HAIR. “I am so excited to star as ‘Joseph’ alongside Diana,” said Ace. “It’s great to be back! I too am so excited to star alongside Ace in the very role I once looked up to years ago as a child in the choir,” added Diana.
One of the most enduring shows of all time, JOSEPH is the family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son. BIOS
DIANA DeGARMO (Narrator) From Broadway to the Hollywood Bowl, Diana is no stranger to the stage. At 16, she stole America’s heart on “Idol” before becoming the first alum to star on Broadway. Starring in such shows as HAIR (where she met her husband Ace Young), 9 to 5, Brooklyn: The Musical, Hairspray and The Toxic Avenger, she then moved to Los Angeles to play the role of “Angelina,” a fan favorite on the number one daytime series “The Young and the Restless.” In 2008, she released an acoustic EP “Unplugged in Nashville,” and recently released a Country EP “Live To Love,” composed of songs co-written with Ace. She is so excited to star alongside him playing the very role she once looked up to years ago when she was just a child in the choir. It’s great to be back! ACE YOUNG (Joseph) This athletic, 6’1″ runt of 5 boys moved to Los Angeles from Boulder, CO, over ten years ago to pursue a career in music. Since then, Ace has worked with musical stars ranging from Brian McKnight to Desmond Child. He is a Grammy-nominated songwriter with number one hits in the U.S. and Sweden. Ace has performed for the masses at festivals, concerts, parades, bars and hole-in-the-wall joints around the world. After being a contestant on “Idol,” he pursued a Broadway career, starring first in Grease and then in HAIR, where he met his wife, Diana DeGarmo. They recently released a Country EP “Live To Love,” composed of songs co-written by the two of them. Other television credits include “Bones” and “Planet 360.” Truly comfortable in the spotlight, he is so excited to star as ‘Joseph’ alongside his new wife. ANDY BLANKENBUEHLER (Direction and Choreography) Broadway: In The Heights (Tony Award), Bring It On (Tony nomination), 9 To 5 (Tony nomination), The People In The Picture, The Apple Tree, and the revival of Annie. Other work includes: Fly (DTC), The Wiz (City Center), Desperately Seeking Susan (West End), “Sesame Street,” and “So You Think You Can Dance.” Future projects include Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Only Gold with Kate Nash. Mr. Blankenbuehler has performed on Broadway in Fosse, Contact, Man of La Mancha, Saturday Night Fever, Steel Pier, Big and Guys and Dolls. He resides in New York City, with his wife Elly and two children, Luca and Sofia.

THE LION KING began as a 1994 animated feature-length film developed and produced by the Walt Disney Company. The story, a coming of age parable set among animals indigenous to its setting, the African savanna, tells the tale of Simba, the lion cub who rises to be the King of the jungle.

The show’s director, costume designer and mask co-designer Julie Taymor continues to play an integral part in the show’s ongoing success. The first woman to win a Tony® Award for Direction of a Musical, Taymor has in recent years supervised new productions of the show in Las Vegas, Madrid and the UK tour and just completed casting the Brazilian production in Sao Paolo.
The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s music from The Lion King animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from “Rhythm of the Pride Lands,” an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. The resulting sound of THE LION KING is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Academy Award®-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” to the haunting ballad “Shadowland.”
The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed The Lion King animated feature, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the film’s screenplay. Other members of the creative team include: Michael Curry, who designed the masks and puppets with Taymor, Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Michael Ward (hair and makeup design), John Stefaniuk (associate director), Marey Griffith (associate choreographer), Clement Ishmael (music supervisor) and Doc Zorthian (production supervisor). Anne Quart serves as associate producer.
