Google, Inc. leasing the entire Westside Pavilion shopping mall in West Los Angeles.

West Los Angeles, Calif. – Hudson Pacific Properties, Inc. (NYSE: HPP) and Macerich (NYSE: MAC) today announced that Google, Inc. has leased the entirety of their One Westside redevelopment, a planned 584,000-square-foot Class A creative office campus that was formerly part of the Westside Pavilion shopping mall in West Los Angeles. Google’s approximately 14-year lease term will commence upon completion of construction and build-out of tenant improvements in 2022.

One Westside, with construction expected to commence later this year, will be a first-of-its-kind conversion from landmark shopping mall to Class A creative office space. Designed by architecture firm Gensler, the project repurposes high ceilings and a multi-level atrium and skylight, allowing for natural light-filled interiors. Up to 150,000-square-foot floorplates provide hyper-flexible open layouts, while 45,000 square feet of expansive exterior terraces and patios with 15-foot wide folding glass walls create a seamless indoor-outdoor environment. The property also features a rooftop amenity space with a garden deck and direct bridge access to the Landmark Theatre, Westside Tavern restaurant and in-line retail shops.

Victor Coleman, Chairman and CEO of Hudson Pacific Properties, said, “We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Google, and are proud to support this significant phase of their growth. Google’s selection of One Westside demonstrates the strength of the Los Angeles tech and media industries, and exemplifies the type of creative office space that is in demand from large tech and media tenants. One Westside also demonstrates Hudson Pacific’s ability to identify and swiftly execute on large-scale and complex investment and adaptive-reuse opportunities to meet that growing demand.”

Tom O’Hern, CEO and Director of Macerich, said, “Macerich properties are known for the strength of their markets and unparalleled locations. The fact that Google is taking all available creative office space in this joint project with Hudson Pacific underscores the power of our well-placed real estate.”

RG Kahoe, Google’s Real Estate Project Executive for the Southwest, said, “Google’s been a proud member of the Los Angeles community since 2003. We’re excited to continue investing in the community as part of Hudson Pacific and Macerich’s adaptive reuse project at One Westside.”

Targeting LEED Silver certification, One Westside is located steps from the Expo Line light rail’s Westwood/Rancho Park station and proximate to the I-405 and I-10 freeways. The property is immediately adjacent to the residential enclave of Cheviot Hills, and less than three miles from the business and residential communities of Century City, Westwood, Culver City, Mar Vista and Brentwood.

One Westside is owned in a joint venture formed in March 2018 by Hudson Pacific and Macerich. Hudson Pacific owns 75% of the venture and serves as the managing member and the property’s day-to-day operator and developer, and Macerich owns the remaining 25%. The joint venture also owns and will continue to operate 96,000 square feet of adjacent entertainment and retail space at 10850 Pico Boulevard.

City of Santa Clarita to Host Ribbon Cutting for the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project – UPDATE Jan. 15, 2019: RIBBON CUTTING FOR THE NEWHALL RANCH ROAD BRIDGE WIDENING PROJECT POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER-RELATED DELAYS

RIBBON CUTTING FOR THE NEWHALL RANCH ROAD BRIDGE WIDENING PROJECT POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER-RELATED DELAYS

The Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project that was scheduled to take place on Friday, January 18, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. has been postponed due to work delay as a result of the recent rain storm impacting the region. However, all lanes of traffic are now open – offering the widened capacity of four lanes in each direction. Finishing details for the bridge have been delayed due to the inclement weather – such as road grinding and striping of the lanes. Weather permitting, these items will be completed by the end of next week.

The multi-million dollar project expanded the bridge to provide an additional traffic lane in each direction – increasing the number of lanes in each direction to four. In addition to improving trail connections with a new undercrossing trail in the west bank, the project also added a raised median and a new protected sidewalk and bike path on the south side of the bridge. The Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project is a federally funded project and is part of the Building and Creating Community theme in the Santa Clarita 2020 plan.

A rescheduled date is forthcoming and will be announced in a press release. For additional details about the project, please contact Project Manager Jackie Lillio at (661) 286-4131.

Opening date in original article below has been postponed as of January 16, 2019

Overview:

Viewers in North and South America, as well as those in western parts of Europe and Africa, will be able to watch one of the sky’s most dazzling shows on Jan. 20, 2019, when the Sun, Earth and Moon align at 9:12 p.m. PST, creating a total lunar eclipse. The full moon will also be at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, called perigee. While at perigee, the Moon appears slightly bigger and brighter from our perspective on Earth, so it’s often referred to as a “supermoon.” But does it really look as super as some say?

Pompeii: The Exhibition, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, now through April 21, 2019.

Simi Valley, Calif. –Around mid-morning on August 24, 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvius erupted.  Molten rock and pumice was expelled from Mt. Vesuvius at a rate of 1.5 million tons per second.  Rocks and volcanic ash filled the atmosphere, turning day into night.  Within 24 hours, the Roman city of Pompeii lay destroyed – and perfectly preserved – under 15 feet of ash and volcanic debris.  It is estimated that about 16,000 people died in the eruption.

In 1748 when explorers examined the site, they found that the volcanic ash had acted as a preservative, and many of the buildings and even the skeletons and remnants of city life were still intact. This city frozen in time provided historians with a glimpse into what life was like in ancient Rome.

Pompeii: The Exhibition, opening October 6, 2018 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, features over 150 authentic artifacts on loan from the renowned Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy.  These are not replicas, but rather original, 2,000-year-old objects that were preserved in the ash.  These artifacts include wall-sized frescos, marble and bronze sculptures, jewelry, ancient Roman coins, and full body casts of the volcano’s victims.

These artifacts, set in scenic depictions of their original surroundings, tell the tale of the bustling city of Pompeii, hidden from view and forgotten for centuries until its rediscovery over 250 years ago. The catastrophic power of volcanoes is also illustrated through an immersive CGI experience of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The impact and devastation is evidenced by full body casts (plaster casts made from the hollows left in the ash that hardened around the now disintegrated bodies of the victims, found upon excavation), eerily preserved in their final moments.“5 stars for the Pompeii special exhibit – It was a fascinating peek into the lives of the people before Mt. Vesuvius erupted and the aftermath of the explosion.” – Karen W; Yelp Reviewer

EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS

The exhibition’s media-rich, immersive experience transports visitors back in time to 79 A.D. where they will embark on a journey through the ancient city, culminating with the fateful morning of the eruption. They will learn how Pompeii was a bustling commercial port and strategic military and trading center, while its neighbor Herculaneum, also buried by Vesuvius, was an exclusive Mediterranean resort. Artifacts bring this world to life as visitors discover how its people lived, loved, worked and worshipped.

Included among the more than 150 authentic artifacts are: mosaics and frescoes, gladiator armor, weapons, a ship’s anchor, ceramics, plates, furniture, jewelry, medical instruments and tools.

A simulated 4-D Eruption Theater experience allows visitors to experience the devastating impact Mount Vesuvius had on Pompeii, culminating in the reveal of full body casts of twisted human forms, asphyxiated by extreme heat and noxious gases.“This exhibit was the next best thing to a trip abroad. Fascinating artifacts with strong explanations as to the background of the items. Video to enhance the exhibits was professionally produced and educational. There was a 4-D movie experience that was phenomenal.” – Joanne F; TripAdvisor Reviewer

Additionally, archaeological details present a unique record of Pompeii’s daily life including roads, buildings, and municipal services.

This not-to-be-missed exhibition is thrilling for adults and appropriate for the whole family.

‘Wizard of Oz,’ Hayao Miyazaki exhibit to star in LA Motion Picture museum

Los Angeles – An immersive “Wizard of Oz” exhibit will greet visitors to the Motion Picture museum in Los Angeles when it opens after a long delay in late 2019, organizers said.

A pair of the ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in the classic 1939 musical, along with costumes, props and exhibits about the behind the scenes making of The Wizard Of Oz, will be installed in the lobby of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Hundreds of other movie memorabilia on show in the main “Where Dreams Are Made” exhibit will include a pair of doors from Rick’s Cafe from the movie Casablanca and the typewriter used to write Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Museum director Kerry Brougher told reporters that the museum had several goals.

“We want to convey the emotional and imaginative power of film. We want to explore the impact of cinema on society and culture at large and most importantly, we need to ensure film’s history and its legacy for future generations.”

The US$388mil (RM1.6bil) museum in mid-town Los Angeles is spearheaded by the organisers of the Oscars and has been years in the planning.

Plans were first announced in 2012 with a projected 2016 opening but the project was plagued by building delays.

The 27,871 sq m museum, with two movie theatres and sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills, is now expected to open in about a year, museum officials said.

The work of Japanese master animator Hayao Miyazaki will be the subject of the museum’s first temporary exhibit, followed by one on African-American cinema from 1900 to 1970 that is scheduled for the fall of 2020. – Reuters
