Ballet Folklórico, Local Musicians and Super Nintendo Party SENSES Come to Old Town Newhall
Santa Clarita, Calif. – After hitting a banana peel in May, the Super Nintendo SENSES Block Party is back on track for June! Joining this crowd favorite are four events that will energize your mind, body and soul through music, dance, art and more as part of Thursdays@Newhall in Old Town Newhall. Thursdays@Newhall is an ongoing opportunity for residents of Santa Clarita to attend shows, concerts and special events on Thursdays throughout the year.
The schedule begins on Thursday, June 6 at The MAIN (24266 Main Street), when 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their music, film, dancing, comedy and storytelling at the monthly 10 by 10 Variety Show from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Argentine tango dancers Madeline Conroy and Paul Blinder will give attendees a taste of what propelled the duo to the finals of the 2018 Southern California Tango Championships. Additional performers in June include the Fisher-McLeod School of Irish Dance; music by Ted Case and Janine Cooper-Ayres; comedy by John Wynn, Cat Alvarado, Richard Meyers and Jann Karam; storytelling from Michael Dougherty; and a screening of the short film “So Much Yellow.”
The dancing continues at JAM Sessions on June 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Newhall Community Center! The City of Santa Clarita’s Ballet Folklórico program has a rich tradition in “Increasing Pride through Dance” and will help attendees tell their story through the art of dance. Instructor Maria Romero will teach attendees teamwork, poise and confidence as they learn this rich, traditional dance style. JAM Sessionsis hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation,bringing dance and original live performances to Old Town Newhall.
Following a rainout in May, the SENSES Block Party will reset its Super Nintendo theme on June 20 starting at 7:00 p.m. Race through Main Street with Mario and Luigi and be sure to come dressed as your favorite Nintendo character! While you are there, take time to get lost in far off worlds thanks to a gaming truck and a selection of virtual reality games from the Old Town Newhall Library. You will also enjoy the sights and sounds of iconic video games when you visit the on-street bar from The Junction.
Also on June 20, The MAIN will host an artist reception for its newest exhibit, “Feminine Harmony,” from artist Fahimeh Shamsapour. Shamsapour’s art is inspired by romance with dreamlike and abstract elements that focus on nature and female beauty. Guests attending the free reception will enjoy light refreshments and have an opportunity to meet Shamsapour from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. “Feminine Harmony” will be on display at The MAIN from June 19 to July 12.
The Note by Note music night on June 27 wraps up the month inside The MAIN from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Note by Note is a free night of music that delights audiences with a variety of genres. Bands, duos and soloists will perform a wide range of styles, including rock, folk, Celtic, Americana, blues, jazz, country, experimental, western and more! Featured performers in June include Sarah MeeRan Cave, Burton Zimmer Duo, Alesia XO and The Wardencliff Jazz Quartet.
